Current Bite & Water Conditions: Inshore Tarpon & Deep Sea Action fishing report coverpicture

July 23, 2026

San Juan Municipal Park - San Juan, PR Fishing Report on 23rd Jul, 2026

The bite off San Juan is in full swing, bringing outstanding opportunities across both inshore lagoons and offshore drop-offs. Early morning starts have yielded the highest strike rates as water temperatures stay cool before mid-day. Light winds and clear water conditions are making sight casting particularly effective throughout the bay. Inshore Report: Tarpon & Snook in San Jose Lagoon Inshore waters have seen steady activity for silver-king Tarpon in the 40 to 100+ pound range. Working live bait and topwater glide lures near mangrove edges and channel bends in the San Jose Lagoon has produced explosive strikes. Primary Targets: Tarpon, Snook, Great Barracuda, and Jack Crevalle. Best Technique: Live bait drifting on light tackle around early morning tide changes. Guide Tip: Plan morning trips right around sunrise for maximum activity before the midday heat settles in. Offshore Report: Blue Water Billfish & Tuna Just a few miles off the coast along the shelf drop-off, deep-sea waters are active. Fast pelagics are moving through the Puerto Rico Trench currents, giving anglers memorable stand-up battles. Primary Targets: Yellowfin Tuna (40–60+ lbs), White Marlin, Blue Marlin, and Mahi Mahi. Best Technique: Trolling skirted ballyhoo and vertical jigging deep structure. Recent Highlights: Multiple billfish releases alongside solid Yellowfin Tuna catches within sight of the San Juan shoreline. Ready to get on the water? SuFishNSea operates daily 4-hour, 6-hour, and full-day inshore and offshore outings out of San Juan. All tackle, bait, ice, and expert guidance are provided on every trip.
